Implementing our Imaging System
Click below to listen to this message:
After returning from a two week vacation there was no better time to begin putting our imaging system through its paces than now, since we returned to a mound of mail, faxes, and email messages. Before we left, we decided to set up our folders for storing scanned documents to emulate the file structure of our hard copy files. So our online storage system looks like this:

Imaging Update
Our installation and setup of the imaging system was flawless! The Visioneer 9750 took less than 15 minutes to install, including the upgrade to the full version of PaperPort Pro 9 Office. The only consideration here was that in order to install the scanner drivers, I had to install the version of PaperPort that comes bundled with the scanner, and then uninstall it before upgrading to the full version. Not a big deal as it still took a total of less than 15 minutes.
PaperPort Pro 9 Office is a document management system that interfaces with a large number of other programs, allowing you to capture paper to digital format, and then dispatch and archive it a number of ways. More on that in a late entry.

Google's New Blog Search Tool May be Mixed Blessing
Reaction to Google's announcement that it will begin featuring a new blog search engine elicited mixed reactions, because it is believed that blog results will be removed from the main Google search results, and will only be available in the new Google blog search engine.
Google is making this move because blogs are beginning to overwhelm the search engine results, since their structure and frequent updating give them preference over sites that maintain relatively static page content.

New Search Engine for Blawgs.
Detod Communications has launched the beta version of a new site dedicated to Blawgs. "Blawg Search" is a search engine for law-related blogs, and actually appears to be a cross between a web based news aggregator like Daily Whirl, and a search engine. It allows you to search the full text of a number of blawgs and to view all postings for a selected blawg. The front page aggregates the latest blawg headlines, and also features a key word search field to pull up topical results.
Detod has other experiencing in building online communities for the Oklahoma Bar Association and the National Association of Bar Executives. They plan to expand the project to create a more comprehensive law portal.
We will report back after we have an opportunity to speak directly with Detod officials. In the meantime, our sincere thanks to Bob Ambrogi of Legalline Lawsites for this great post.

Blawging: Let Us Count the Ways it Can Help Us.
Here's as series of short articles which reinforce the different ways blawging can be beneficial to the practicing attorney.Go to the bottom of the page and start with the article on Four Purposes for Blawgs. Then, read this article on a real life example of knowledge management being converted into an additional stream of revenue.
These articles are courtesy of Blawg.org, which I considered to be an unexpected source for such great substantive articles, since their primary focus is serving as a directory of other blawgs. But it just goes to show what a great and diverse resource blawgs can be. Thanks to Bill Gratsch for these great posts!
